We finally arrived at the Addison stop. We were wondering if we were even going to get tickets to the game at this time. It didn’t worry us too much because we had planned on sneaking in anyway. Paying for a ticket was never in our budget. Having someone buy us a beer might be. We worked hard for money and weren’t keen on giving it away, shit, esp. to the Cubs.
We stood waiting for the eastbound to Clark across the street from the whitewashed cinder block building; it may have been a hot dog stand. Every time on the Northside I look for it, reasons stated later.
We were young, impatient, a spring in our step, Keep Moving the mantra and we started to hike it to Wrinkly Field. The bus finally arrives; we were about three blocks away. We learned it wasn’t the 2 miles Bubs said. Upon leaving that became an important bit of information.
