Just can't get enough of this picture...
KENNY HOLTZMAN’S NO-HITTER
… a 53 yr. old recollection …
If your uncle wears a skirt, is he your aunt or does he simply move to the north side and become a Cub fan?
-2021, now, as is then... my friend...
***************************
Yes, it happened. The Cubs choked.
“Hey, Bubsy”…. Pebble rock on his second story bedroom window.
It’s getting to be about 8:30 am and we three had agreed yesterday
in Kennedy Park ( 114 S) to go to Wrigley Field ( 4000 N) . This was an audacious
project for 3 twelve year old boys…
“HEY, BUBSY”… because bigger rocks demand bigger attention,
Frankie throws a chunk of something, as Bobby Bubsy’s face appears in the
window. Glass is stronger than you think.
Window slide up: “I can’t go. I have an eye glasses
appointment. I forgot.”
“How do we get there?” Bobby Bubsy, through Kevin Bubsy, his Cub fan
brother, knew the CTA transfers, including the subways. This was way beyond me and Frankie’s pay
grade. We cut grass together. As
teenagers, we made a good living.
We were going to spend our good hard earned bucks to go to
Wrigley Field. Ding dong dang it.
“Bubs, how do we get there?” (This recollection cannot
attribute it to me or Frankie),
“Go over to the CTA Bus Stop at 11400 South, transfer twice,
maybe three times to get to 4000 N Addison. Two miles East and you are there.”,
as he closed the window and went back to bed.
Western Avenue by bus from one end of the city to the other: What an adventure.
Pt 2 soon
