Who was that Stickman first baseman from the Bobcats' that could hit the 16in softball onto 114th St from the Field House diamond? I recently heard Dennis O'Brien died. Great man, I thought. I wish his lovely wife and children the best,
Terry Crotty was his most ferocious opponent. Those games in the lower fields of KP were the best. When Denny came ploughing around third base into the catcher for a game changer, many times Terry would knock the catcher out the way, take the ball and take the brunt of a St. Leo fullback. It went 50/50. That's what I remember. Tremendous rivalry, games started at 11am and continued to sunset. Money bet and an CFD ambulance was on hand.
Back to Buzzy Thurman, Ed Zolna. Mike Sheahan... Brian Egan, Johnny Calvano, Turtle... SO many gamers, sportsmen, athletes of unRenown, tremendous men in our community. Softball wise, and neighborly wise, that is.
I know the bats were loaded. I, honestly, knew then as a 12 yr old. Great memories.
