I'M PULLING INTO THE STATION
AN ENGINEER ON A PASSENGER-LESS TRAIN
MOST DISEMBARKED BECAUSE OF MY FAST TURNS
MY BUMPY RIDE OR MY HISSING BRAKES.
SOME I SIMPLY THREW OFF.
THERE WERE THOSE WHO STAYED JUST AS LONG AS THEY HAD TO.
ONE WAS TOO AFRAID TO GET BACK ON.
ALL RODE FOR FREE.
I SAW THE MOUNTAINS,
THE DESERTS, THE PLAINS
AND THE OCEAN SHORES.
I CHUGGED AND CANNONBALLED
FOR DECADES.
STOPPED TO REST AND THE RUST BECAME ROT.
I'M WORTH SOMETHING IN SCRAP.
MY ROUNDHOUSE REPAIRED MY STACK.
I'M THROTTLING TO THE STATION
NEVER COMING BACK.
