LAYING IN

LAYING IN

I'VE SCRUBBED THE BUGS OUT OF THE GRILL,

I'VE WASHED THE DESERT DUST FROM THE WHEEL WELL.

SAW THE PAINT CHIPS FROM THAT TIME IN THE GRAVEL…

BABY, IT LOOKS LIKE SUMMER IS OVER

LET'S LAY IN FOR THE WINTER

AND TAKE A BREAK FROM TRAVEL.

STORIES, AND PICTURES, GOD KNOWS, PICTURES

FROM THE DONNER PASS TO THE IOWA BUTTES

TO THE RESTFUL MICHIGAN LAKE

BUCKING THE WIND, RUSHING INTO THE FIRE

COMING HOME FOR AUTUMN AND WINTER

IN THE SPRING WE WILL AWAKE.

THE SUN WILL ARRIVE ONE APRIL MORNING

THE HANKERING WILL START TO COMMENCE

THE DAY TRIPS BECOME LONGER

THE DESIRE TO CLIMB THEM MOUNTAINS

SURVIVE THAT RAINSTORM

RATION THE WATER

AND SEE THE SUNSET ON A FAR HORIZON

RETURNS.

"I'VE NEVER BEEN TO VERMONT

OR SOUTH CAROLINA, EITHER."
