ENERGY VAMPIRES

ENERGY VAMPIRES

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE

GRABBING A FACTOID

EXPANDING THE TRIVIAL

THEY NEED YOUR PERSONALITY

DON'T HAVE ONE OF THEIR OWN

OPPUTUNISTICALLY NOT DISMISSIVE

NORMALLY FLOATING ABOVE YOU

VIEWING YOU AS UNNECESSARY

"MY FRIENDSHIP IS DEPENDANT ON

HOW MUCH DIRT YOU CAN GIVE ME ABOUT YOURSELF

SO I CAN TELL MY FRIENDS, YOU KNOW,

NOTHING PERSONAL."

IGNORING PEOPLE IS THE WAY TO GO

THEY ONLY LIKE THE DIGITAL KIND

BLOOD AND BONE IS  A LIVING THREAT

THEY HAVE TO BE ALIVE IN FRONT OF YOU

WHEN THEY WANT TO BE DEAD

LOOKING AT THEIR PHONE

SKIN COLORED RESEMBLING A CORPSE

OF WHICH NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN

ACT LIKE ROBOTS WILL BE REPLACED BY ROBOTS

AND A NON-HUMAN ENERGY SOURCE

DELIVERING THE POWER

FEW SING NONE DANCE

'TOGETHER' - WHAT A QUIANT WORD

UNSMILING EYES SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF ME

MY WORDS THROWN BACK IN MY FACE

MY REQUESTS UNHEARD

MY NAME FORGOTTEN INSTANTLY

INTERUPTED MID-SENTENCE CONSTANTLY

IF I JUST PANDERED BETTER I'D GET ALONG

EVEN GETTING ENTERED INTO THEIR PHONE'S DATABASE

THEN I WOULD BE SOMEBODY

ENERGIZED

This, Too, Shall Pass

Loneliness comes like a wave.  This, too, shall pass.

Nations, governments, debt, these, too, shall pass.

Panic, anxiety, rumination, these, too, shall pass.

Championships, awards, accolades, these, too, shall pass.

Jail time, conditional relationships, slavery, these, too, shall pass.

Dogs, cats and grandma, these, too, shall pass.

Gossips, abusers, the brainwashed, these, too shall pass.

Mountains, deserts, fertile plains, these, too shall pass.

Lies, white lies, propaganda, these, too, shall pass.

You, your Self, truth shall remain.

As Of Today

This town is populated by snotty high school girls. I'm including the men with that statement. Being a snob implies that your shallow ass-kissing is exemplary. There may be Pandering 101 at the University.

Keeping to myself because no one wants to be with me. I am not of the hive.

Character asassinate each other. That's all we do. Call each other names. Funny, degrading, 'cute' names. A compliment for excellence? Tossed like a manhole cover.

People want digital people. They do not desire company of flesh and blood.

I had a conversation, if you can call it that, with a young, tattooed woman who instructed me that it's 'all magic.' A complete lack of responsibility, a lifetime of society's nightmare. By and large, young people leave me so sad. They are so lazy and lost.

People are afraid of street musicians. This is how weird this society has become.

I went to two rather large art fairs this summer and have two responses: a) some people have a lot of time on their hands. There was some great artistry presented. b) there is still a lot of money in circulation. The art market has to be money laundering.

A few chickadees. No songbirds. Grackles and crows. A skunk. A doe and two weaning fawns. No cats. Too many dogs and arrogant dog owners.

It seems the only sane, healthy people are those not 'under doctor's care'.

Want to destroy a society? Give them all they want and let them destroy themselves.

Pumpkin Head*

MY HEAD IS A PUMPKIN

I have no past. It's today and a soon-to-be pine box nap. Every person I knew is a distant memory. Every action I have done, good and bad, is forgotten. Every person I meet today wants to talk about their nostalgia. I have nothing to say.

I express myself to a collective "W-W-what?" I quack like a duck without echo. Endlessly explaining myself, the conversation dies. If there is a cell phone in hand, I might as well be out of the room. As a human being, I am frivolous to all.

What I do have to offer is a curiosity in a world of the un-curious. The best I can do is "cute", the one application of dismissal that serves as a compliment. Not attached to anyone or anything has a certain freedom, only it's incredibly lonely. Occasionally I connect with someone, occasionally. No one is interested. I can't solve their problem or immediately do something for them, they move on. Women are just plain frightened of the sight of me. Daddy issues reign supreme in this society.

I am smoke. Their words disturb me but go right through me. I walk through a crowd and only leave a scent. No one can touch me. My words dissipate before reaching another's ear.

My past is smoke, unretrievable.

Alt Reality

Ron Coleman Has an Epiphany: We Live in Different Moral Universes, and We Are No Longer Even Close to Being One People

I guess I had an epiphany. It is funny how we think we're "based now," but are, really, still stuck in old mindsets.

On the way to my new office I drive past the office of a relative whose law office I once worked in as an intern, many years ago. He was kind and generous.
Though we never grew close, I was always grateful for his early guidance and exposure to law practice. He is pretty successful. We have lived nearby, and stay in touch a bit.

But politics... politics, like sex, changes everything.

He is a committed Clintonite.

And as my public persona has become more and more political in recent years, we have clashed.

I have tried to avoid personal conflict with him, but above all I have been astonished at his intellectual dishonesty about the people and causes he supports.

And what I am often trying to do is justify myself, show him his attacks on my views (say, on Facebook, where they are mostly likely to be found) are based on mistaken premises, etc.

I always liked him. But now I am driving by his office regularly, and I don't stop in.

And I thought about this, and another relationship came to mind - one with a former college professor of mine whom I respect and like a lot. He is a liberal, too, but he is also fighting an important public cultural fight against a particularly ugly LW myth that is about.

We recently renewed our relationship when Mrs. C picked up his book on this topic, and we attended a public lecture of his nearby, and it was really very pleasant.

(This is why you go to the great universities, by the way.)

And we started corresponding.

And I should have known trouble was brewing because at this lecture, involving a topic in American history, there was a Q&A session, and inevitably Trump came up, and inevitably he reassured the audience that Trump was awful and deserved to be removed.

And we chalked this up to, well, the social milieu. He "has to say that." He even has to believe it.

Everyone can have his blind spots, and politics is, well, funny. After all, his generation was raised to believe that Nixon was the antichrist.

Nixon was not the antichrist.

But in the course of our correspondence about the culture war, in which we agreed about just about everything, the politics crept in, inevitably.

And rather than excerpt his comments, presumably meant to be private, let's just say what I hoped was not the case, is the case:

We do not live in the same moral universe.

This cannot be a matter of how we understand or perceive facts. The way people on the left describe facts is a manifestation of an outlook that is a set of choices.

These choices are not defensible any more, if they ever were.

And I was writing in this mode of trying to find common ground - and to his credit, he was, too... except that his "factual" premises (merely political conclusions) were just absurd. They were no more reasonable or measured, in and of themselves, than a Twitter exchange.

Although, again, the tone was, and this is not for nothing.

And I thanked him for this thoughts, and promised I would write back.

I have not written back.

I guess am tired of doing the work with ... these people.

"These people" who I like, as people. Who have been generous to me, who have extended themselves personally, who are humane and generous... but in the hyper-politicized world we all live in, it is I who have to prove to them, constantly, that no, I'm still ok!

I am certainly not going to go out of my way to antagonize "these people." I at least owe them that much.

But I guess I am tired of going out of my way to assuage them, reassure them, be the moderate one, pretend to think their takes could be reasonable.

To pretend.

Why I am pretending to tolerate people who believe I am in league with Literal Nazis and that in supporting Trump I am supporting, as another academic I have known for years said of him on Facebook, "the worst person who ever lived"?

He has tenure, and he wrote this publicly.

You can't go home again.

I don't know if I can ever stop in at that office halfway between my home and my work where I had my summer internship 35 years ago. I like my dad's cousin, because I like most people.

But I do not respect him. He does not respect me.

Is this a proper epiphany, though? Should we be as Marxists and indeed politicize everything and every relationship, even when there are common and human reasons to want to maintain them?

Or is it just rational to avoid inevitable conflict and inevitable retreat?

We're Dying Over Here

I like old men. They can be wonderful bastards because they have nothing to lose. The only people who can be themselves are babies and old bastards." John Updike

American Life Expectancy Dropping Dramatically Thanks to White Working Class Male Suicides
27 November, 2019 Paul Joseph Watson

After increasing for decades, American life expectancy is now facing an alarming decline thanks mainly to suicides of white working age men.

A study published by the journal JAMA, found that life expectancy in America increased from 1959 to 2014 but that the number plateaued in 2011 and began decreasing in 2014.

“The study…found that the decline is mostly among “working-age” Americans, or those ages 25 to 64,” reports Live Science. “In this group, the risk of dying from drug abuse, suicide, hypertension and more than 30 other causes is increasing.”

The decline in life expectancy for working aged males has not been recorded in other developed countries and is a “distinctly American phenomenon,” according to study co-author Steven H. Woolf of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.

According to Lisa Britton, CNN’s coverage of the story omitted the crucial point that the decline was being driven by male suicides.

“CNN just did a piece on the declining life-expectancy rate in the US… and failed to mention it’s the MEN’s rate that is declining! Women have maintained a steady rate although there’s been an uptick in the women’s overdose rate (The Wash Post turned their story into that) Wow,” she tweeted.

...  the only demographic group that has seen a dramatic rise in suicides and “deaths of despair” is white, middle aged, working class men.

Despite this, the media and the culture still relentlessly blames that same demographic for both historical and contemporary societal ills, de-legitimizing their trauma under the rubric of “white privilege.”

Lonely? You're not alone. America's young people are suffering from a lack of meaningful connection.

NEED HELP:

Growing evidence shows that our sensitivity to stress as adults is already “tuned,” so to speak, in infancy, according to the review article. Specifically, the amount of stress encountered in early life sensitizes an organism to a certain level of adversity; high levels of early life stress may result in hypersensitivity to stress later, as well as to adult depression.

Monday Morning Going Down*

Obama is a war criminal. Congress is full of war criminals.

Peruvians just threw their ex-President in jail for 25 years. The French are kidnapping their Bosses and humiliating them in public. The people in Tblisi, Georgia are sieging the parliament and demanding their leadership resign.

What do Americans do? Buy more guns. Live in quiet shame that they don't have a job. Expect Obama to fix things. Generally, not much, but grumble.

The war budget will be voted on soon. It's even higher than Bush ever asked for, with a supplemental of 72 Billion more. Is there any opposition? Just grumbles. How can propping up a bankrupt banking system help the common man? Is there a connection in people's minds about the war and the bankrupt banking system? grumble, grumble (don't make me think).

... and Labor. Pitiful, big, dumb Labor. Not an original idea, or a good old idea for that matter. Just a lump of fatty tissue on the body politic. Waiting for capitalism to come around and ask for their help. Not a peep of protest. Not a hint of direction. They would rather fight internally, as if, invaded by virus. Ineptness this bad has to be planned. It's time for leadership and they are invisible, void of any ability to say or do anything to challenge the status quo. Useless to the unemployed. Useless to their pensioners. Useless to their legacy. Done.

The Depression is coming like a freight train without signals. Get ready. Holding onto your false security will not help. Do everything possible to maintain your mental and spiritual health. Your money will be gone and you better know who your friends are.
